A special thanks to La Fèria de Nómes, an annual Bullfighting Festival in Nimes, France. The masthead artwork is derived from a series of affiche (posters) that students at EERIE, Ecole pour les Etudes et la Recherche en Informatique et Electronique, literally, a school for the study and research of electronic information, have preserved. A click on each masthead or top-of-column graphic links to a full view of the affiche from which the design was drawn.

Several exemplary sites need to be credited with seeding the design structure of this site. San Francisco State University provided the strongest model for the nomenclature of the top-level links. MIT inspired the basic structure of the top- and second-level page layout. University of Texas and several other sites suggested "spotlight" links at the top level. We're still looking for a more thematic title. America Online provided a model copyright page that provided the coding for shaded table links which load faster than graphic blocks and, along with many other pages, inspired the geometry for the tertiary pages.
The primary purpose of Monta Vista's website is to disseminate information. You may find many of the student pages with large cgi-based graphics demonstrating HTML-coding skills, and they are encouraged to pursue those skills. It is our goal to keep our primary pages clean and simple with warnings to the uninitiated if they are about to embark on an animated journey best suited for an ISDN connection.
Another design goal is to develop simple intra-site navigation links on each page to give visitors an easily navigable tree if they've taken the time to make it down to the bottom of the page. Load time is minimized if these "bars" are text-based.
As this page develops, we will include links to the history of the Web at Monta Vista with snapshots of past opening pages.
